Outdoors Notebook: Friday the Last Day For Atlantic Snook

Snook season closes on Saturday on Florida's Atlantic coast. The last day for keeping snook is Friday.

The season has remained closed on the Gulf Coast since the freeze in January of 2010, and will stay closed through Aug. 31 in 2013.

 

Crappie USA on Crescent

Crappie USA will open the 2013 season with two tournaments in Florida.

The season-opener is on Crescent Lake at Crescent City on Jan. 19.

The second event is on lakes Weir/George near Ocala on Jan. 26.

Free Guided Hike Saturday At Pedersen Preserve

There will be a free guided hike open to the public at the Barbara B. Pedersen Wildlife Preserve off Scenic Highway near Dundee on Saturday.

The 0.7-mile hike on a loop trail begins at 9 a.m.

The 40-acre upland preserve was donated by the Jim Pedersen family to the Green Horizon Land Trust, which is hosting the hike along with the Friends of the Park Foundation.

The hike is part of the Trek Ten Trail program.
