Soles Top Polk Angler in BFL at Okeechobee

Van Soles of Winter Haven led the Polk County delegation in the Walmart Bass Fishing League tournament on Lake Okeechobee Saturday.
Soles finished 10th with 18 pounds, 2 ounces in the Gator Division tournament, moving up to fifth in points.
Kyle Monti of Okeechobee won the tournament by almost 4 pounds with 24 pounds. Darrin Simmons of Oviedo finished second with 20 pounds, 1 ounce, and produced the biggest bass at 8 pounds, 5 ounces.
Monte, 20, earned $6,000 flipping a 1-ounce, black-and-blue Medlock jig and a Charlie's Zipper Dipper.
Troy Olivier of Lakeland finished 18th with 15 pounds, 15 ounces to move up to second in points. Jared Dial of Winter Haven was 46th (13-3).
In the co-angler division, Michael Davis of Lake Wales placed fourth with 15 1/4 pounds. Wally Bell of Lake Alfred was 23rd (10-7). Garry Fisher (32nd, 9-10) and David Mathews (34th, 9-9) of Winter Haven also made the top 50.
The next tournament is March 9 on Lake Toho.
Bell, Greenfield Fishing On Guntersville March 2
Polk State College Fishing Club members Austin Bell and Forrest Greenfield of Winter Haven will compete in the FLW College Fishing Southeastern Conference Invitational tournament on March 2 at Lake Guntersville in Alabama.
The event is one of four qualifying tournaments for the regionals.
Bell and Greenfield finished 28th in the first qualifier on Lake Okeechobee Jan. 12. Polk State teammates Kyle Prince and Mike Boswell placed 38th.
One-Mile Hike Saturday
A one-mile, round-trip hike at the Lewis Arboretum near Winter Haven on Saturday will be hosted by the Friends of the Parks Foundation and the Green Horizon Land Trust.
The hike, part of the Trek Ten Trails program, is free and open to the public. It begins at 9 a.m.
The Arboretum is on Overlook Drive about 1/2-mile east of Carl Floyd Road in Winter Haven.

Pigeon Pull Saturday
The seventh annual Pigeon Pull and Evening Roundup is Saturday at the S (bar) S Ranch in Lakeland to raise money for the Achievement Academy.
There is a four-person flurry skeet shoot from 2:30-6 p.m. The party is from 6-10:30 p.m. with cocktails, barbecue dinner and live entertainment.
Individual tickets are $50.
The ranch is located at 4098 J.A. Fenton Road.
