Notebook: Monster Bass at Rodman Reservoir

Bob Williams of Alloway, N.J., reeled in a 13-pound, 14-ounce bass on Rodman Reservoir last week, just 2 ounces shy of 14 pounds.

Williams released the monster bass, which he caught on a wild shiner, to qualify for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's new TrophyCatch Program.

The bucketmouth was the program's first Hall of Fame entry for bass 13 pounds and larger.

Public Meeting March 13 About Hydrilla on Chain

There will be a public meeting on Wednesday, March 13, in the town of Kissimmee for discussion of the FWC's hydrilla management plan on the Kissimmee Chain.

The FWC will host the meeting on the fourth floor of the Osceola County Administration Building in the County Commission Chambers from 6-8 p.m.

FWC biologists will provide updates, answer questions, and take public comments regarding hydrilla treatments on the chain last November and December. Plans for spray treatments coming up in April will also be detailed.

License-Free Fishing Days

The FWC announced the license-free fishing days for 2013 at its meeting in Orlando on Feb. 13.

License-free days in fresh water are April 6 and June 8, both Saturdays.

In salt water, license-free days are Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, Sept. 1.

Resident and nonresident anglers don't need a recreational fishing license on these four days.

Outdoors Expo in Tampa Friday Through Sunday

The 22nd annual News Channel 8 Outdoors Expo & Boat Show is Friday through Sunday at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa.

Admission is free on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, the cost is $8 for ages 13 and up. Children 12 and under get in free. Parking is $5.

Show hours are 1-8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
